Love, because love was starting to interact in the book.
i think that the most important word is reflect or something like that.. he really didnt have the worst life as he thought he did.

To me this means that we can love anyone we want. We just have to open up and not be afraid to consult with them on problems. That those people need to see that we care about them not just know it. We are free to do as we wish, but whether it ends with the result hoped for or not all depends on the actions of the person and what they choose to do. That no one is alone unless they choose to be. I think the one word I would use is desisions. You can choose to love some one or to like, dislike or hate. Life is only what you make of it. If Alex kept keeping people out instead of letting people in. He wouldn't have changed or maby he would but differntly probabley NOT for the better.
i think that that statement means that no matter how hard life gets there is always something to look forward to, weather it may be love, a friend, or in alexs an old man, and evn though in the time of death there is something to rejoice.

It is to show that times may be very rough but you'll always have someone out there to love you, and they'll help you through it and only after the difficult situation do we realize that we always had someone a light in the darkness if you will, and after the situation do we realize what can be learned form it, and that dark times should not hold us down theres always at least a little good in every situation, but if we dwell on the dark times and never let them go or learn from them we will forever be in a darkspot.
