On page 146-7 Laurie and Alex engage in a conversation.
" I dunno. Steven just looks at her like she hung the moon or something. I think it would be great if a guy looked at me that way. I could see staying together for life with somebody who cared about me that much."
"I care about you that much..."
"Yeah, but I mean a real guy....I mean, you're a real guy, and you're good-looking and nice to me and funny and...umm...I dunno, great. But you're my ALEX. You know?"
Based on this conversation, where do you think their relationship is headed? I think Alex wants the bff relationship to go farther and Laurie feels weird about it and i also think eventually Alex will ask her out and she will keep rejecting him and she wont go out with HIM....
I think that alex and laurie are just going to be friends because every time alex trying to get into a coversation that involes love or stuff like that laurie trys to end it as fast as she can.
I think Laurie doesn't care about Alex,yet, in the same way he cares about her. Laurie will eventually grow to like Alex in the same way he likes her.
I think that they will just stay friends because Lauris just likes Alex as a friend.
It was so cute what alex said! it seems like they are headed for being more then friends. but at this point i cant really tell because they may not want to so they dont ruin their friendship but they would be so good together!!
I think that Alex really likes Laurie and wants to date her now. But he is afraid to lose the great friendship that they have and is kind of afraid to try to take that friendship to the dating level.
I think that Alex wants to keep having her as a friend, but I don't think that he wants it to go that far, because he doesn't want to ruin the relationship they've had for so long. I think Laurie feels the same way, but is hiding it.
I think that maybe they will get together cause after Alex said he liked that one girl Laurie totatlly beat down on him like she was jealous.
I'm sure that Alex is going to hear those words "let's just be friends" somewhere in the story. Laurie does notice his good looks and that he is a nice and funny guy but they have been friends waaaay to long to have something more than that.
I think Alex will eventually kiss laurie, and they'll start dating later in the book. Laurie knows Alex likes her, but she can't accept it, that's why when Alex said,"I care about you that much," She hit him. I think she likes alex too but is afraid of telling, I think this conversation will strengthen their friendship, not hurt it!
I think that this relationship is going to go farther :) I think that finally Laurie will catch the hint that Alex wants to be more than friends... Also, when they had their hug that supposedly lasted too long, Laurie didn't refuse the hug and pull back, she held on to Alex. If she didn't like him for anymore than a friend I think she whould have pulled away. I agree, Payton :) they would be so cute together and I think that what he said is cute too :)
i think Alex and Laurie's relationship might start to go down hill but then again it could also go the other way. But if it does go down hill i think it will be because Alex falls head over heels in love with Laurie and when he starts showing it more she won't like it and just want to be friends or not even friends. If it goes the other way, Laurie will like him too and they will turn into a really happy couple! =)
I think that Laurie might like Alex but not relize it like the way Alex did but then when Alex said what he said she was quick to say that he was just her Alex, or mabey she doesn't like and might start to now that she now he likes her. Plus when Alex started to talk about the girl from school who he said was pretty she strated to say a bunch of mean things about the girl. I think that they won't because they have been friends for so long and not just a normal friend but a great friend that they do everything together and they both are afraid of ruining their friendship.
I think their relationship is headed in a good direction. For a while though it will just be where Alex likes Laurie and Laurie just doesn't think about Alex that way. Over time though, Laurie will start to develop those same feelings for Alex that he has developed for her. I think that right now Laurie is a little scared to like Alex, because if they ever broke up or anything then it wouldn't be the same as it was when they were just friends and had sleep-overs and stuff. At first, Alex will hear those words, "lets just be friends," but after some time they will grow to like eachother and be very happy! :)
I think Laurie likes Alex but she doesn't want to admit it she's afraid it will ruin Alex and her's friendship. I'm sure as the book progresses Alex and Laurie become something more than friends though.
I think that Alex is realizing that he likes Laurie, but he is also afraid that he might lose his best friend, so Laurie will probably notice that he likes her, but in the end they will decide to still be friends.
i think alex and laurie's relationship will get worse before it gets better. So they might go out but it will take awile before laurie sees alex the way he sees her
i think sol got the idea of laurie being Alex's girlfriend into his head and now Alex looks at her differently and maybe even get to be boyfriend and girlfriend

During this conversation Alex makes it obvious that he likes Laurie as more than just being friends, however I don't believe she understands. I think she likes Alex a little beyond friendship but not like Alex likes her. She wants to be friends with him and it seems she is hinting off clues about how he should treat her but she isn't quite grasping the fact that he already tries to be good enough for her. I believe that they will both find that it is better to be friends and move away from this stage in life.
I think that something more is defenitely going to happen between them. In this conversation, Laurie is dropping a big hint but I think she is to embarassed to admit it because when Alex said that "he cared about her that much" she was hesitating. And I already know that Alex likes Laurie because of the way he's checkin' her out. It's obvious that something else is going to happen.
I think that Alex wants to make this friendship into a realationship. Alex is just starting to realize that Laurie is beautiful and i think he should make his move. haha

Alex obviously isn't hesitant with what he does. Laurie thinks things through and looks ahead at what can happen later in her life. I'm appearently not a guy, but i think that he likes Laurie by the way that he acts around her. And Laurie seems like she gets a laugh out of herself whenever she teases him. Maybe she will fall for Alex's charm therefore she knows him better then anyone else.
I dont think that there relationship will go farther there friendship is way too strong to sacrifice it! I think that they would feel awkward if they dated because they are way to close of friends.
I can't say at this point it looks like things could go either way Laurie could have said those things to Alex to try and get him to be that guy or she could have just been telling him this for no big reason just to get it off her chest.

Based on what we've seen so far i think the relationship will become something more. the fact that the conversation even came up shows that both are considering it. Laurie's loss of words also indidcates that Alex's statement caught her by surprise, her further response almost hints she kind of likes him too. They have also been friends a very long time and i think that now that alex is realizing he likes laurie she may realize she likes him
I dont think there relationship is going anywere. I actuly think it is getting worce as the book goes in. I think they will still be friends but not the kind Alex wonts them to be.
